Put a character in my ask box.

And I’ll answer these questions about them:

  1. Do you love/hate/don’t feel strongly about this character?
  2. What’s your favorite trait of this character?
  3. What’s your favorite moment/even involving this character?
  4. If you could have one power/attribute/etc. of this character, what would it be?
  5. Have you ever pictured this character naked?
  6. When did you fall in love/hate with this character? I you don’t have any strong feelings toward them, why not?
  7. Who’s your OTP for this character?

#Yay. #This sounds fun. #My fandoms are in the tags.

So, yeah, with a few exceptions, I usually write my name on the inside front cover of my books.

And I’m not gonna lie, on the inside cover of my copy of “The Casual Vacancy” I may have written the words “Graduate of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry” under my name.

  • Me: *reading J. K. Rowling's "The Casual Vacancy"*
  • Me: I will judge this book on it's own merits. While I think it's fair to analyze an author's works by comparing them, I will not limit my analysis of "The Casual Vacancy" by only comparing it to "Harry Potter". I'm not going to go into this book with the expectation that it will be like "Harry Potter".
  • Barry Fairbrother: "Nineteen years, kids! Nineteen years, and your mother's never looked lovelier." (J. K. Rowling, The Casual Vacancy, p. 3)
  • Me: *The Epilogue - Nineteen Years Later*
  • Me: ... You're not going to make this easy, are you JKR?

Plot Twist: Andrew Price reads J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter books and hopes someone will come rescue him from his father’s abuse the way that Hagrid came and rescued Harry.

The cover of my e-book of Rowling’s “The Casual Vacancy” was changed to the new paperback cover …

Just thought I’d mention it …

Happy 6 month anniversary of J. K. Rowling’s “The Casual Vacancy”!

27 September 2012

#I can’t believe it’s been six months.

#I’m thinking of rereading the book. #It feels weird that The Casual Vacancy is the only one of JKR’s books I haven’t reread yet.

an-enemy-bigger-than-my-apathy:

The fact that I can’t read a review of The Casual Vacancy without the author referring to Harry Potter every second sentence makes me incredibly mad. It’s a different saga, genre, and a different book. Stop fucking comparing them.

I just wanted to see what other people though of the book, but apparently all they think is “well, it’s not Harry Potter.”
Like fuck, really?

I understand how you feel. I felt the same way when reading some reviews and seeing the television coverage. When JKR was doing interviews for the release, the tv shows would preface her appearance with clips from the HP movies and I was kind of sitting there being confused and laughing.

But when I wrote my own review, I found that it was difficult not to mention HP, though I only mentioned it a little bit (sort of as an intro of why I was nervous about the book, etc.), but then for the review, I focused on TCV. I felt that that was only fair to judge the book on its own merits. I tried to sort of put in a little reminder towards the end along the lines of “don’t expect to love every JKR book as much as you loved HP, because people will always have that one book they love more than anything else and nothing else can compare” but I tried to judge TCV on its own.

#By the way, this is totally random, but your URL is awesome, an-enemy-bigger-than-my-apathy.

There will be at least two different covers. So far, one for the UK and one for the US have been announced. MuggleNet has pictures, of course.
